Bridgetown is located on the far easterly Caribbean island of Barbados, and it draws thousands of tourists a year, simply for its natural beauty. With over 900 miles of beautiful beaches, century old plantations, wildlife preserves and wonderful tropical gardens, these are only a few of the sights to see when visiting. Bridgetown is the islands capital and one of the Caribbean’s major duty free ports.
Upon docking at the Bridgetown Passenger Terminal, a 15 minute walk or a short taxi ride will bring you to the center of town which is always bustling with activity. When shopping look for the great buys on crystal, china, jewelry, cosmetics and perfumes. Local artists offer crafts, paintings and other items as souvenirs. If you forget someone, upon your return to the terminal you can still shop at a wide variety of shops that are located in the terminal. Broad Street is the main street for shopping however; it has a huge variety of boutiques and department stores.
Tourism and off shore finances are the major source of income for the island giving them their healthy existence, and the island locals called Bajans are proud of their island and treat all visitors as their privileged guests. Bridgetown is full with outdoor activities such as swimming, tennis, boating and fishing, while it also offers a wide range of water sports and has excellent golf courses.
Fine dining is available in all hotels and restaurant all around Bridgetown, and please tries the delicious flying fish, it’s a must, and lobster and crab are also popular dishes served on the menus. You cannot leave Bridgetown without sampling the Mount Gay Rum; it’s been called one of the finest in the Caribbean.
If your ships itinerary will allow you enough time on shore for some sightseeing, stop by Trafalgar Square, The Barbados Museum or visit St. Michaela’s Cathedral all beautiful and interesting sights to remember from your trip. Come, enjoy the food, enjoy the culture and enjoy the island.
