Bonaire

Located 50 miles from the country of Venezuela lies the second of the “ABC Islands” of the Netherland Antilles, Bonaire . Bonaire today is known as a bird watchers haven, and for scuba diving, and is now fast becoming a holiday resort. Upon arriving you ship will dock at Kralendijk North Pier, and the center of town is only walking distance away.

If shopping is on your agenda when on shore, Bonaire is not a major shopping port.  However there are many stores that sell fine china, gold jewelry good quality watches and excellent Dutch cheeses. Local artists sell beautiful ocean themed arts and crafts along the main street of Kaya Grandi and also along the side streets and U.S. currency is widely accepted  at most of the stores on the island.

Dining while on shore is a cultural delight; with the diverse cultures many dishes have an ethnic flare to them. The variety of foods found here range from Italian to Thai to Barbecues to a Tex -Mex Buffet.  Snack bars or Barhaps as they are called offer tabletop grilling and most restaurants feature fresh caught seafood daily along with gumbos and goat stew.

An interesting place to visit while sight seeing is Washington Slagbaii National Park, once a thriving plantation it is now designed to maintain island flora, fauna and house geological treasures.  Scuba dives and independent sight seeing tours can be arranged on board ship.

Once you visit Bonaire on a cruise you will surely want to return again and again.
